Job overview:
Work with a team of Captains to safely transport staff to and from the Boston Harbor Islands.

Responsibilities:
The Boston Harbor Islands boat Captains primary responsibilities include:

  • Navigate any of our vessels to safely transport persons, equipment, and materials
  • Supervise the loading and unloading of vessels with knowledge of the carrying capacity and limits of each vessel
  • Prepare and maintain records and logs of maintenance, areas patrolled, materials transported, inventory of supplies and requisitions
  • Assist in management of mooring program
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Applicants must have at least one-year full time, or equivalent part-time experience in the operation and maintenance of vessels. Must possess a 50-ton inland USCG masters license. Local knowledge of navigating in and around Boston Harbor may be substituted for experience. Must have a valid TWIC card, CPR/First Aid, and radiotelephone operators license.

The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation is a major steward of the commonwealth's natural and cultural resources. The Boston Harbor Island natural recreation area is a unique partnership park with an abundance of natural and cultural resources that offers tremendous recreational and educational opportunities. DCR owns 16.5 of the 34 islands and peninsulas in the park and actively staffs six of the islands that are accessible by public ferry during the recreational season. Employment Information:

Baert Marine, a leading northeast boat dealer seeking yard worker for the busy upcoming spring season. The ideal candidate would possess a drivers license, preferably CDL class A and class 1D hoisting license.

The work related to this position to entail:
1. Boat hauling to and from the water using conventional boat trailers as well as a hydraulic boat trailer.
2. Loading and unloading of boats from trailers to stands and blocking, and back onto trailers from stands and blocking.
3. Offloading new boats and trailers from shipping trucks and low beds.
4. Moving boats to and from storage yard as determined by yard work schedule.
5. Maintaining yard space allocation and boat placement as determined by work schedule.
6. Other general fork truck operation.
7. General yard maintenance and other duties as assigned. Experience hauling, launching, and retrieving power boats a plus.

Fork truck training or licensure as well as experience operating hydraulic boat trailer is also helpful, but we are willing to train the right individual.

The MARINE ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN will serve customers by installing, troubleshooting and repairing marine electronics both in the shop and on-board vessels.

Job requirements:

  • Knowledge of the principles of electricity, electronics, shipboard and/or shore installation procedures and shop practices.
  • Install cables in shipboard cableways using approved methods. This requires the ability to climb shipboard ladders, physically pull the cable and navigate narrow passageways and knowledge of proper installation methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, installation drawings, technical manuals, handbooks and other technical documentation.
  • Splice wires and solder connections to fixtures, outlets, and equipment.
  • Install, operate and troubleshoot various marine navigation software.
  • Measure, cut, and install frameworks and conduit to support and connect wiring, control panels, and junction boxes. Must be familiar with power tools and basic carpentry skills.
  • Travel is required, must have valid driver's license
  • Lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds and work at heights up to 50' above deck with safety equipment
  • Must be familiar with the following: Radar, sonar, computers & software, GPS, autopilot, VHF radios, electrical systems, NMEA2000, etc. Familiarity with marine electronics and NMEA Certifications or FCC are strongly suggested.

The Service Manager is responsible for managing the service department and service team. Responsibilities include working with the customer (either internal or external) to obtain the information required to perform the work on the boat, and following through to make sure the work is completed correctly the first time and in a timely manner.

Responsibilities of Service Manager Includes

  • Oversee day-to-day service operations including scheduling and distribution of work for service advisors, technicians and yard team, utilizing Service Scheduler and other tools as required to generate and manage work orders.
  • Hire, train, motivate, coach, monitor and evaluate the performance of all service team members..
  • Use manufacturer flat rate guides and Standard Service Operations (SSO's) to determine the time allotted for the work, and follow up on timely completion.
  • Insure that the Complaint, Cause and Correction of each problem are noted in the IDS work order.
  • Coordinate with the manufacturer and/or extended warranty companies to get approval in advance of repairs, if required, and take precautions necessary to guarantee our payment including but not limited to pictures of the work and returning parts replaced.
  • Greet customers and determine needs, providing clear and precise instructions on the work order for the service team.
  • Promote the sale of additional labor services, parts and accessories in a professional manner for each customer.
  • Estimate cost of repairs and prepare itemized work orders listing costs of parts and labor.
  • Obtain Customer signature on every work order, and collect payment for work prior to releasing customer boat. In the event the repair cost is unknown initially, obtain customer approval on work order to diagnose issues, and then contact customer with estimate for repairs as soon as determined, and obtain approval.
  • Coordinate technical and product knowledge training for service team and provide technical assistance as needed.
  • Routinely inspect quality of work performed as required, prior to delivery to the customer.
  • Implement safe, effective and efficient work procedures.
  • Maintain production reports on all service staff. Verify production compensation earned and report to payroll department.
  • Insure continuous financial growth of department, develop and exceed budgets, and manage expenses and department profitability.
  • Promote and fully participate in the MarineMax Safety Program; ensuring a safe workplace free of hazards for all team members.
